Portfolio and Tutorials

At Terife Educational Services we have designed a flexible program of classes to prepare the portfolio that some universities require as a requirement for admission to careers such as Visual Arts, Design, and Architecture.

In preparing this portfolio, the student will enhance his innate aesthetic skills and sensibilities to execute and appreciate art and design.

In parallel, we offer a series of computer program courses to improve the skills of our students in different areas. These tutorials are focused on academic and professional fields as well as personal areas.

The student will learn various fine arts techniques in these classes, which will include: introduction to life drawing, familiarization with different materials and techniques such as graphite, pastels, watercolor, engraving, analog collage and three-dimensional items, among others. It also includes notions of art history, artistic movements and their most iconic representatives.

Elena Gil, architect and fine arts artist (elena-gil.com) is in charge of these classes.

This course is aimed at preparing a quality portfolio by enhancing the student’s skills. It begins with an introduction to the basic principles of visual communication, then progresses with exercises in typography, layout, use of color, graphic identity and exploration in packaging design.

The student carries out complete projects in these areas. These, together with his art and photography work, will make up his final portfolio.

These classes are led by Elena Terife, a graphic designer with more than 30 years of experience (comunicacion-central.com).

In these tutorials, we advise the student in the process of preparing process of preparing the audio and video recordings required by conservatories and universities for students applying to music programs.

Within the program, we also provide:

– Instrument practice tutorials: saxophone, recorder, clarinet, trumpet, trombone and piano, among others.

– Music theory classes: solfeggio, harmonies, composition and improvisation.

These classes are led by Glenn Tomassi, a Grammy Award winning saxophonist, composer and jazz musician.

By combining technique with an artistic eye, these classes will teach the way to understand the essentials of the art of photography. The student will combine theory and practice in order to achieve the best result. The workshop is aimed at students who seek to complement their portfolio for careers and universities requiring it, and for students who, depending on their interests, wish to become photographers.

The fundamental objective of this course is for the student to master this software fully, according to the parameters established by the APA Standards, so as to be able to operate the tool in order to customize and adapt his academic or professional needs.

At the end of this course, the student will be able to create, edit, and design the entire format of his documents, from the basic parameters of the paper, to the inclusion of tables, images, writing, citations and references, thus allowing the student to present quality work.

It is a 6-class course.

The course’s objective is to provide the student comprehensive command of Microsoft Excel, allowing him to take full advantage of all the possibilities this tool offers. What he will learn will be essential to develop an analysis in different areas of his life academics, work and personal.

At the end of the course, the student will master skills such as: entering information, ordering it, manipulating it, performing calculations (mathematical, financial, statistical), working with dates and times, and constructing graphics. Likewise, he will be able to make use of advanced functions to manipulate data, build accurate analyses using dynamic tables and will have a glimpse of the world of macros, which will lead him into a whole universe of other applications to make working hours much more productive.

We offer two levels in this course: Basic-Intermediate and Intermediate-Advanced.

Each level is a 6-class course.

The objective of the course is for the student to master this fundamental tool to optimize and visualize data in order to reach speedy and accurate conclusions. This will be useful in the academic and business environment, for business analysis or simply for monitoring and analysing personal activities. Microsoft Power BI is one of the most robust Business Intelligence technology programs on the market.

The student will learn how to make reports on dashboards through different exercises and practice projects. He will be able to create interactive reports, acquiring skills and knowledge in creating visualizations using different types of data from multiple sources in order to meet various analysis objectives.

It is a 12-class course.

The objective of the course is to introduce the working environment of the MS Project program in the operational environment of a complete project.

Microsoft Project is an essential software for project managers. It has been designed to promote efficient administration and project scheduling: it permits control of plan development, assignment of task resources, tracks progress, manages budget and analyzes workloads for project managers.

Upon completion of this course, the student will master the MS Project interface with great skill. He will be able to assign tasks, know their duration and their connectivity, create different kinds of resources and assign the activities required, create project calendars and their different resources. He will be able to control and organize a project schedule based on the mentioned variables (tasks, resources and calendars), as well as observe and interpret any variations in the planning of a project.

It is an 8-class  course.

The objective is to prepare the student in the basic handling of this tool and familiarize him with the Adobe Suite site. This course is essential to increase his competence in the graphic and audio-visual arena, especially for those students preparing their portfolio to apply for careers such as Art, Design, and Architecture. It will also be very useful for those who take the introductory courses in graphic design and introductory photography to make the most of these tutorials.

On concluding the course, the student will be able to create and manipulate images at will, through the application of the fundamental tools of the program, understanding its operation and being aware of the scope and workflow that it offers.

It is an 8-class course.

The course’s objective is for the student to master the tools offered by Adobe Illustrator for the creation of graphics and the design of high-impact visual communication items in the field of advertising, editorial or web design.

This course is essential to increase the student’s competence in graphics, especially those preparing a portfolio to apply to careers such as Art, Design, and Architecture. It will also be very useful for those taking the introductory graphic design course to make the most of this tutorial.

At the end of the course, the student will be equipped with the basic handling of the tool, allowing him to design simple vector items involving text, shapes, logos, vector drawings and photographs.

It is a 12-class course.

We selected WordPress for our courses because it is the world’s largest web publishing platform, used by millions of people and businesses, and is one of the most powerful and user-friendly website and blogging tools.

This course has been designed for anyone needing to create and develop a basic website hosted on WordPress.com.

At the end of the course the student will be able to begin developing his website starting with the creation of his account until he publishes his first post in the public realm, after having selected a theme that gives the graphic appearance and content the organization desired through posts and pages.

This is an excellent complementary tool to master for those students who are preparing a portfolio to apply for careers related to design.

It is a 12-class course taught by Daniel Viera, architect, web developer and teacher with more than twenty years experience (viera.info).

In response to the advancement of technologies, knowledge on programming adds much value to our academic and professional profile. The objective of the course is to provide the student with basic programming skills to enter the world of computer science.

This course will cover –with a theoretical/practical approach– all programming fundamentals, such as: variable declaration, data types, loops, conditional statements and functions, among others.

The participant will study the theoretical principles and learn programming using Python, the world’s most popular programming language. At the end of the course, the student will carry out a project in which he/she will apply and consolidate all the knowledge acquired.

It is a 12-class course, designed and taught by Alfredo Jahn, systems Engineer and part of our teaching staff.

This is an essential course for students interested in careers related to Engineering, Architecture, and Industrial Design.

AutoCAD 2D is an internationally recognized software for its capacity to edit completely, facilitating digital drawing of blueprints, either of buildings, machines, mechanical parts, furniture or other objects.

At the end of the course, the student will manage the program’s basic tools effectively and will be able to make 2D drawings.

It is an 8-class course.

This course is essential for students interested in careers related to Engineering, Architecture and Industrial Design, and is a perfect complement for those taking the AutoCAD 2D course.

Autodesk Inventor is a 3D solid parametric software for making models: it allows to model materials and dimensions geometrically, so that if the dimensions are altered, the geometry is automatically updated based on the new dimensions.

At the end of this course, the student will easily be able to handle the Autodesk Inventor program to create and model 2D and 3D parts. He will master the Inventor toolbar, use construction plans, make and dimension 2D sketches, 3D construction options bar, and perform 3D assemblies. In addition, the student will learn to use the tool to interpret basic plans to model them and to create further plans from those items devised in the program.

SketchUp is an indispensable tool for architecture, engineering, or design students.

This course provides an ideal opportunity for students to acquire useful knowledge for their career and the rest of their professional future, since the software can be used to design mock-ups for urban planning, architecture, civil engineering, industrial design, scenic design, GIS, video games, or movies.

By the end of the course, the student will know how to use the basic program tools to be able to create 3D drawings.

It is an 8-class course.
